Your Office Visit

If you are a new patient, have not been in for one (1) year or have had any changes in your medical or dental health, changes in medication, insurance changes, changes in address or name please have the following information available on your visit.

  • The names, addresses and phone numbers of all doctors currently treating you
  • The names and dosages of all medications you are taking and your pharmacy phone number
  • A copy of your medical and dental insurance cards, dental and medical insurance forms if applicable
  • A copy of your dental and medical insurance coverage booklets
Upon arrival in the office please sign in. You will then be greeted and if necessary the staff will help you register as a patient. Please present any letters of referral, x-rays or lab test reports at this time. At this point you will be asked to complete or update your health history forms if you have not already done so. (These are available online here.)

Once registration is complete, x-rays will be reviewed. We usually can use x-rays provided by your dentist, but under certain circumstances, new x-rays may be necessary. An x-ray for our purposes must show the entire root of the tooth and at least 1mm of normal surrounding bone. Pathologic lesions, deeply impacted teeth and other conditions may require different types of x-rays including panoramic, occlusal, periapical and cephalometric x-rays. These will be explained to you by our doctors or a surgical assistant.

Once your x-rays are taken (if necessary) you will be given the opportunity to visit the rest room. This is particularly important if you will be undergoing general anesthesia. Your family member or escort is more than welcome to accompany you to the surgical suite and with minors it is required.  Please designate only one family member or escort to accompany you to the surgical suite as space is limited.

When you arrive in the surgical suite, you may store outer clothing on the door hooks, personal effects on the shelf provided and emergency medications that you carry (nitroglycerin, asthma inhalers etc.) on the shelf also. No food or beverages are allowed in the surgical suites. The surgical assistant will then go over your health/medical history and review your history of allergies and medications you take.

Once you are seated, depending on the nature of your appointment, various tests may be done including an electrocardiogram, blood pressure, pulse and pulse oximetry. These monitors are fully automatic and will usually remain on while you are in the surgical suite.

At this point a consent for surgery will be presented for your review. Your doctor will then join you if they haven't already and review your medical history and proposed surgical treatment plan. You will be given a problem oriented examination and your treatment will be discussed, options presented and discussed if applicable. At any point in time please feel free to ask any question you wish of our doctors or staff. The more you know regarding your treatment the easier you will find your experience.

Once the discussion is complete, the treatment will begin.  Prior to going to sleep a seat belt will be placed across your lap to prevent you from rolling off the table when you wake up and a nasal oxygen mask will be placed over your face. Your escort will be required to leave prior to begining the procedure. The escorts are to return to the waiting room.

Once your surgery is complete, you are recovered in the surgical suite and then walk to recovery, where you are joined by your escort. For our pediatric patients mom and dad are brought back directly to the surgical suite as soon as surgery is completed so mom and dad can recover along with our patient.

Following recovery, front office staff will return and discuss post operative instructions. Prescriptions will be given or called to your pharmacy as per your preference. You will have the opportunity to visit with your doctor at this point and your surgery will be reviewed. Post operative x-rays may be taken, follow-up appointments will be made if necessary, and recall appointments may be arranged. Some of our patients have conditions for which periodic recall may be necessary. This may extend out through the rest of your life. If you are placed in a recall category, it is extremely important that you keep your appointments. Failing to do so could result in adverse health consequences of the most grave nature. While there are charges for recall visits, they are kept to a bare minimum to encourage patient compliance.

Payment is due at the time that services are performed unless other arrangements have been made in advance. For you convenience, we have a variety of payment options available. You may pay with cash, local check, or credit card (MasterCard and Visa). If you have dental or medical insurance we would be happy to bill the insurance company for its part of the cost. Your co pay should be paid at the time of service.
