All outpatient surgery is performed under appropriate anesthesia to maximize patient comfort. Our doctors are trained, licensed, and highly experienced in providing various types of anesthesia for patients. These services are provided in an environment of optimum safety, utilizing modern monitoring equipment and a well trained experienced staff. The Surgical Care Team, the office facilities, and the doctors are inspected on behalf of the Board of Dental Examiners on a regular basis.
Patients receiving a General Anesthetic/Sedation should return home immediately upon discharge and lie down with their head elevated until the effects of the anesthetic wear off. Anesthetic effects are different for each person. You may feel drowsy for only a short time or for several hours. Following an anesthetic someone should be available at home to care for you for a period of at least two hours. You should not operate mechanical equipment or drive an automobile for at least 24 hours following an anesthetic.
Nausea occasionally occurs following an IV anesthetic. If you become nauseated after surgery, we do not recommend eating dairy products (yogurt, ice cream or milkshakes). Pain medication can also exacerbate nausea. For further advise, review the Post Extraction Care.
Occasionally, the arm or hand near the IV site remains inflamed and tender. This is caused by a chemical irritation from the medication. Anti-inflamatories and moist heat with resting of the extremity will usually correct the symptoms. Advise your doctor if this occurs.
